Richard L. "Dickie" Rice, 80, passed away on January 13, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on November 8, 1943, in Johnson City, Tennessee, Dickie's friendly demeanor and caring spirit touched the lives of many throughout his 80 years.
A devoted family man, Dickie is survived by his loving daughters, Kim Basinger and Beckey Jackson; his sons, Stephen Rice (Brooke) and Kevin Rice (Brandy); and his treasured grandchildren, Jordan Chase, Robbie Jackson, Ben Jackson, Jacob Rice, Maggie Rice, Sara Faith Fisher, and Abigail Fisher. Throughout his life, Dickie embraced his role as a father and grandfather with joy and unwavering commitment, creating countless warm memories that his family will cherish forever.
Dickie was a proud 1962 graduate of Boones Creek High School and a lifelong resident of Gray, Tennessee. His strong work ethic was evident in his long career, having retired from Eastman Chemical Company. A man of faith, he served diligently as a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and dedicated his time and energy as the President of the Rockingham Men's Club.
Known to be an avid hunter and fisherman, Dickie found equal pleasure in dirt track racing as well as the tranquil pastime of watching and feeding birds. His love for the outdoors was a testament to his adventurous spirit.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Dickie will remember him as a loving, wise, and faith-filled man. His guidance and friendship will be deeply missed by all. The pearls of wisdom he shared throughout his life are far-reaching and will have a lasting impact for years to come.
Dickie’s family extends their gratitude to the 5300 wing at Johnson City Medical Center as well as to Kim Meadows and the staff at Christian Assisted Living for the short time he was there.
The family of Mr. Rice will receive friends on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Snyder’s Memorial in Gray, TN. His funeral service will follow with Kevin Rice officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens.
