Question: Is cremation less expensive than a traditional funeral?

Response: Yes, cremation does offer a more affordable alternative to the traditional funeral service. The average charge for Direct Cremation (cremation with no memorial services) is around $2,000. This charge will vary depending on cash advances (obituaries, number of certified death certificates, and charges for permits/authorizations).

Question: Is embalming required?

Response: Except in certain circumstances, embalming is not required by law. However, if you choose a type of arrangement that includes a public viewing, visitation, or funeral ceremony, the body of the deceased will need to be embalmed. Embalming is also required if a body is to be transported from one state to another. If you do not want to have embalming, you can choose arrangements that do not include this service, such as Immediate Burial or cremation.

Question: Can cremains be shipped to someone who lives out of town or in another state?

Response: Yes, cremated human remains can be safely shipped through the United States Postal Service.

Question: Can a person who has chosen cremation still have a visitation with the body present?

Response: Yes. It is becoming more and more common to have families choose to have a public viewing, visitation, or funeral ceremony followed by cremation.
