Mike was one of the most interesting men we have ever met. He had multiple college degrees, but never looked down on those of us who did not have his I.Q. or formal education. He just always enriched the conversation with his wit and wisdom. We were blessed to have him in our Sunday School Class for a couple of years. During the discussions, he could always bring a new perspective. His love of nature endured up to his graduation from his earthly body. His last days were spent looking out his picture window at the beauty of God's creation. He had no fear of his next adventure into his eternal life because he acknowledged that he would be with his Creator.
We grieve with the family at his premature departure, but rejoice in the knowledge that Mike is pain free and we will be reunited with him.

i'm sorry to hear of mike's passing. I lived on Carolina avenue when your family lived on Pineola avenue in Kingsport. mike and I grew up together and were tennis buddies back in the Summer of '67 and were on the tennis team of '67 through '68. in fact, when I first started playing tennis, Mike showed me the proper way to hold a forehand and backhand and how to keep score. i'll always hold fond memories of Mike and remember him as a good friend. my prayers are with you. I regret that I did not know Mike, but I too was a Vietnamese linguist in the Air Force from 1970-74. I graduated from DB in 1966 and lived in Elizabethton and Johnson City from 1975-1993. Odd and sad that we never met. I have taken the liberty of posting his obituary on Facebook in some private groups of former USAF linguists. We former members of the Security Service consider ourselves "Silent Warriors". Speaking for them, we honor Mike's service and offer our deepest sympathies to your family.
