Alicia Ann Proffitt, age 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the Johnson City Medical Center on February 26, 2026. Born on May 26, 1951, in Bristol, Tennessee, Alicia was the beloved daughter of the late Walter G. and Mary Reece Phillips. Known for her radiant spirit and kind heart, she was a treasured member of her community and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Alicia's life was one marked by devotion to her family and an unwavering love for those around her. She was the cherished wife of Michael J. Proffitt, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage filled with love, friendship, and mutual respect. Together, they built a family that became Alicia's pride and joy.
Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of her daughters, Mandy Banks (Kevin) and Diedre Carter (Jay), who will miss her guidance and unconditional love. Her sister, Carolyn Phillips, will remember Alicia as a confidant and lifelong friend. Though her granddaughter, Megan Carter, preceded her in death, Alicia's legacy will continue to live on through her grandchildren, Chaz Shipley, Justin Carter, Josie Crowe, Macee Banks, and Eric Banks. Her great-granddaughter, Karder Shipley, will grow up hearing stories of her great-grandmother's strength and compassion.
Alicia spent her last 20 years in Piney Flats, where she was an active homemaker. Alicia's nurturing nature extended beyond her own family as she touched many lives with her generous spirit and willingness to help others. Her home was always open to friends and family, and her kitchen table was the site of many heartfelt conversations and shared laughter.
A private graveside service to honor Alicia’s memory will be held.
