B.C. Gillenwaters, Sr., age 87, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on June 13, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on August 19, 1938, in Fort Blackmore, Virginia, and was a native of that community. B.C. carried himself with the quiet strength, steady character, and warm presence that earned him the respect of family, friends, and neighbors throughout his life. He lived in Gate City for several years before moving to Tennessee, where he made his home in Gray and later in Jonesborough in 2014.
B.C. retired from Stowers Machinery after approximately 35 years of dedicated employment. He was a hardworking man who took pride in doing his job well and in providing for those he loved.
He was of the Baptist faith, and his beliefs were an important part of his life. His faith helped guide him through life’s joys and sorrows, and it was a source of comfort and strength to him and to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Maxie V. Gillenwater; his wife, Rachel Margaret Robbins Gillenwater; his brother, Lester Gillenwater; and his sister, Pauline Gillenwater. He is survived by his son, B.C. Gillenwater, Jr., and his sisters, Kathleen Gillenwater and Alice Gillenwater; and his brother, Corbett Gillenwater, Jr. He also leaves behind many cherished memories that will be held close by those who loved him.
His family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Snyder’s Memorial. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Sparky Barnes officiating.
Following the funeral service, Mr. Gillenwaters will be laid to rest at Washington County Memory Gardens at 2:00 PM.
