Chad D. Helton

Chad D. Helton, age 53, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on April 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.

He was a man who found his greatest joy in the simple, meaningful things—cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers every fall Saturday and spending long, peaceful days by the lake. Whether it was cruising on the water with family or just sitting back and taking in the view, the lake was his happy place. And when the Vols were playing, you could always count on him to be watching, cheering loudly, and proudly wearing his orange.

Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was a steady presence, a source of strength, and someone who showed his love through his actions—always there when it mattered most. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his sense of humor, and the way he made people feel at home just by being around.

Chad was preceded in death by his father, David Helton, and his grandparents. 

Those left to cherish Chad’s memory are his loving wife, Sonja Wood Helton. Daughter, Emily Helton. Mother, Donna Graves (Step Dad, Greg Graves). Brother, Aaron Duncan (Wife, Ianne Duncan, and children, Abbigail and Cameron). He also had many beloved Aunts and Cousins. 

Chad’s family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Snyder’s Memorial. A celebration of his life will follow at 2:00 PM. There will be an open invitation for anyone who has any words to say or stories to tell. In honor of Chad, the family encourages you to wear your favorite Tennessee orange or spend a little extra time outdoors, enjoying the beauty of the water—just as he always did.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
