Charlene Cartwright Obituary

Charlene Cartwright- Johnson City

Charlene Cartwright, 87, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2020, surrounded by ones she loved.  Born on August 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Georgia Cartwright.

Charlene had worked as a court reporter for the State of Tennessee for over 25 years.  She enjoyed the courtroom atmosphere and she especially cherished working alongside Judge Arden Hill for many years.  Retirement days suited her well.  Charlene enjoyed having a good time going to Harrah’s Casino with her many friends, especially Brenda and Sam.  Of all the Mother’s Day gifts over the years, she held dearest the request of spending the day at Harrah’s Casino with her son Charles.  Charlene enjoyed watching all sports, but an Atlanta Braves baseball game she never missed.  She knew every player (past and present), every coach, and every manager; and she was quick to tell you who was at fault if they lost.

Those left to hold dear her many wonderful memories include her beloved son, Charles Austin Beard and wife Brenda; her sister, Marjorie Foster (Roy); her granddaughter Jennifer Beard Rogers (Jon); her great-grandchildren, Jared Rogers (Mindy) and Jacob Rogers (Alex); and her great-great-granddaughter Andi Rogers.  In addition, nephew Tom Foster (Kim); niece Tina Eldridge (David); and her sweet, treasured dog Chipper.

A private service with family and friends to celebrate the life of Charlene Cartwright will be conducted on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at 11 am with Pastor Jon Rogers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Washington County Animal Shelter.

The family wishes to thank caretakers Judy Cantwell, Cindy Northern, and hospice nurse Vanessa Fletcher, for their kindness and compassion shown to Charlene over the last couple of months.

Snyder’s Memorial Gardens, 5913 Kingsport Hwy, Gray is serving the family (423)477-7911.
