Charles Hammitt, Sr. - Sulphur Springs, Tennessee
Charles Burton Hammitt, Sr., 81, of Sulphur Springs, Tennessee, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Wednesday evening, November 17, 2021. Mr. Hammitt was born on February 8, 1940, in Washington County, Tennessee, to the late Rufus and Alpha Ingle Hammitt.
Mr. Hammitt was a native of Sulphur Springs and lived there his entire life. He was a retired electrician who worked at Burlington Industries for 40 years. He was a member of the New Hope Church of the Brethren and recently had been attending Pleasant Valley Brethren Church. He was an avid softball player and played in the over 40 league; he was a Bible scholar and he really enjoyed studying his Bible. He could do just about anything and enjoyed working in his shop, gardening, hunting, mowing the lawn, and spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hammitt was preceded in death by his sister, Eloise Archer; and his brother, Rufus Hammitt.
Those left to cherish Mr. Hammitt’s memory include his wife, Linda Cox Hammitt; two daughters and their husbands, Debra Michelle Campbell (Randy), Cheryl Alison Storey (Wes); one son and his wife, Chuck Hammitt (Cindy); four sisters and their husbands, Lula Gray (Gale), Nelta Cox, Pat Jamerson (Gerald), Famah Fenner (Jim); one brother and his spouse, Beau Hammitt (Lionel); two granddaughters, Kacie Campbell and Allie Storey; three little furry friends, Lexi, Lily, and Boots; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service for Mr. Hammitt will be held at Fairview Community Cemetery on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM. Pastor Daniel Fink, of Oak Hill Baptist Church, will be officiating the service.
