Charles Yates Obituary

Charles Dwain Yates, age 76, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on April 28, 2026, at Lakebridge Health Care Center. He was born on March 7, 1950, in Norton, Virginia, the son of the late Newton B. and Emogene Bise Yates.

Charles was a native of Clintwood, Virginia, and had made his home in Gray, Tennessee, for the past 53 years. During those years, he became well known as a dependable and hardworking man who took pride in providing for those he loved. He retired from Eastman Chemical Co. after 40 years of service, where he was respected for his dedication, strong work ethic, and the many years he gave to his career.

He was of the Baptist faith and carried his beliefs quietly and faithfully throughout his life. Charles found joy in the outdoors and in working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening, flowers, and spending time tending to the things he loved. He especially enjoyed tomatoes, and he took great satisfaction in watching them grow. These interests reflected the patience, care, and appreciation for life that were part of his character.

Charles will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his life, and he treasured the time he spent with them. He is survived by his wife, Rita Catherine Yates; his son, Richard Yates and wife Deanna; his granddaughter, Ashley Stokes and husband Devan; his grandson, Westin Yates; his brother, Greg Yates and wife Donna; his sister, Gilda Stanley; and his special cousin, Mike Yates and wife Jody.

Those who knew Charles will remember his kind spirit, his quiet strength, and the steady presence he brought to the lives of others. He was a man who valued family, faith, and hard work, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to be felt by all who were blessed to know him.

Charles will be laid to rest privately at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

The family will hold a private family Celebration of Life to honor Charles' memory at a later date.
