Christine Gillin Surcey, age 96, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on May 11, 2026. She was born on April 28, 1930, in Newport, Tennessee, and was a beloved daughter of the late Ernest & Minnie Gillin.
She was a native of Newport, TN, and had lived in the Boones Creek area for nearly 80 years. During those many years, she built a life centered on hard work, kindness, and steady love for those around her. Christine was known for her warm spirit, her gentle manner, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. She touched the hearts of many and will be remembered with deep affection by all who knew her.
Christine retired from Food City as a Bakery Manager after 30 years of service. She took great pride in her work and was respected for her dedication, reliability, and the care she showed in all she did.
She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life and provided her with comfort, guidance, and strength through the years.
In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Surcey; her daughter, Cathy Surcey King; her son, Richard Allen Surcey; and two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Brown and Phil; her daughter, Debbie Greenway and David; her sons, James Christopher Surcey and Mark Surcey; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Christine Gillin Surcey will be remembered for her loving heart as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was marked by devotion to her family and her faith.
Christine’s family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Snyder’s Memorial, located at 5913 Kingsport Hwy, Gray, TN. A funeral service to honor her memory will follow with Pastor Gary Seaman officiating. She will be laid to rest at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens.
