Connie Sue Bussey, born September 15, 1954, a lifelong resident of Blountville, Tennessee, passed away on March 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by those who loved her. She was a fighter in every sense of the word—having beaten cancer once before, she faced her final fight with the same strength, positivity, and unwavering love she showed in all areas of her life. Connie was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Chambliss Sammons; her sister, Barbara Livesay; and her brother, Will "Lions" Chambliss. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Stephen “Bubba” Bussey, with whom she shared over 34 years of love, laughter, and adventures. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories, unwavering support, and a partnership that was truly one-of-a-kind.
Connie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her special son, Logan Sammons, and daughter-in-law, Christina; her beloved grandchildren, Remington and Paisley Sammons—who were the absolute lights of her life; her brother Pete Chambliss (wife Shirley) and her dearest friend and caregiver, Susan Hoelscher (husband Dave), who stood by her side with a life full of love and the devotion of a true friend and sister.
Anyone who knew Connie knew she was a woman of tremendous strength, boundless love, and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. She worked tirelessly in service to others, both professionally and personally. Connie dedicated much of her life to nursing, caring for countless patients at Bristol Regional Medical Center before transitioning to a second career with the Sullivan County School System. Though she touched many lives in both fields, her true calling came after she retired in 2015—stepping into the role of full-time Mamaw, a title she wore with more pride than any other. Being Mamaw wasn’t just a role; it was her passion. Whether she was chaperoning field trips, cheering from the sidelines, snuggling, or FaceTiming just to check in, Connie was completely devoted to her grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than the moments she spent with them.
Outside of family, Connie had a heart for giving. She found purpose in volunteering at the Bristol Soup Kitchen and with Meals-on-Wheels, always looking for ways to make life a little easier for others. She believed in spreading kindness, and her generous spirit left an impact on everyone lucky enough to cross her path. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the oncology and Amedisys hospice staff and all those who provided care and comfort throughout Connie’s journey, especially Lindsey and Tierra.
In honor of Connie’s wishes, services will be private and handled by Snyder's Memorial. After a life filled with hard work, love, and service to others, she asked that instead of flowers or visitation, people spread joy in her memory. In her honor, please consider donating to a charity close to your heart and, most importantly, helping someone in need—because that’s exactly what Connie would have done. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all of us.
