Gary Combs Obituary

Gary F. Combs, 83, passed away on April 24, 2026, at his home in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was born on August 22, 1942, in Kingsport, and he lived his entire life in the community he loved.

Gary was the son of the late H.W. and Myrtle McConnell Combs. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, H.W. Combs and Jay Combs, and his sister, Camilla Combs.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Combs, and wife Crystal; his daughters, Angie Roberts and husband Chris, and Kelly Weaver; his grandchildren, Scotty Weaver and wife Kendra, and Alyssa Combs; his great-grandchildren, Ezekial Gentry, Walker Combs, Alice Weaver, and Violet Weaver; his nephew, Chris Combs, and his niece Alison Albritton. His family was a source of great pride and joy throughout his life, and he treasured the time he spent with them.

A native of Kingsport, Gary was a lifelong resident of the city and a proud graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication and determination. Gary carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance throughout his life.

Gary owned Chem-Clean, where he built a career through commitment, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. He took pride in his work and in the relationships he formed along the way. His business reflected the same dependable character that defined him in all areas of life, and he earned the respect of many through his professionalism and integrity.

Outside of work, Gary enjoyed a rich and active life filled with music and fellowship. He was a member of the Mountain Empire Shag Society and found great enjoyment in singing, dancing, and serving as a DJ. He shared his love of music with others through his involvement with local bands, including Big Daddy Combs and the Roadrunners, as well as The Echoes.

Gary will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

His family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Snyder’s Memorial, located at 5913 Kingsport Hwy., Gray, TN 37615. A celebration of his life will follow.
