Gwendolyn Jean Snyder-Johnson City
Gwendolyn (Gwen) Jean Hensley Snyder departed this life to at last behold the face of Jesus Christ and eternally reside with him in heaven on February 22, 2018. Gwen was born February 3rd, 1934 in Bee Log, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Althea and Backus Hensley.
Gwen was a 1950 graduate of Jonesborough High School at the age of 16 years old. Later in her life after having her family she attended East Tennessee State University and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Gwen was extremely proud of her years as an RN, she specialized in dialysis at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, and in a physician’s office. Along with her husband Jim, she was the owner of two pharmacies one in Erwin, Tennessee, and another in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
During younger days of her life, she enjoyed riding her motorcycle, bowling, and skateboarding! Following her retirement she became an avid golfer, spending many happy hours playing prominent links with her husband Jim, and her sons, Jimmy, Donnie, & Kelly. Gwen took pleasure in participating with a Women’s Golf League, winning several tournaments. To Gwen, her greatest achievement was being a mother and grandmother. Some of her happiest times were spent being “the mother of three boys” with all the joy, tears and laughter that brings. Her life as a grandmother (Mimi) defied description, she loved nothing better than to have her grandsons with her, spoiling and loving them with all her heart.
Gwen was proceeded in death by James (Jimmy) Snyder her husband of 52 years and one son Donald K. (Donnie) Zukas.
Surviving Gwen is her sons; James (Jimmy) R. Zukas, Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; Kelly E Snyder and his wife Rhonda, of Jefferson City, Tennessee.
