Jack Hatchett, Jr. Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jack Hatchett

A Husband, Father, Veteran, Barber, and Lifelong Friend.

Jack Hatchett was born on August 31, 1945, to Jack Hatchett, Sr., and Lorene Williams Hatchett. From the beginning, Jack's life was marked by quiet strength, deep integrity, and a heart full of love - qualities that would shape every step of his journey.

He served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. His military service was a reflection of the values that defined him throughout his life: commitment, humility, and unwavering loyalty to both country and family.

After his service, Jack settled in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he became a respected and well-loved barber. But Jack's barbershop was more than a place for haircuts - it was a space where people became friends, and where Jack's calm presence and easy conversation left a lasting impression on everyone who walked through the door.

Seventeen years ago, Jack came into my life at a time when I was raising four grandchildren. Without hesitation, he embraced all of us with open arms. Over the years, we built a life together, full of love, sacrifice, and shared purpose. Together, we adopted and raised six children - and Jack gave them what every child deserves: stability, nurturing, and unconditional love.

Thanks in no small part to his influence, four of those children went on to join the United States Air Force. One of them graduated from college. The youngest, just 15, is a true daddy's girl who carries Jack's love in her heart every day. From a previous marriage, Jack also had a daughter whom he adopted and cherished as his own. His love had no boundaries - it was complete and generous.

Jack also had a son, Darren Isaac, with whom he reconnected later in life. After years apart, Jack made the decision to reach out, and he was proud to see the man Darren had become. Their reconnection brought peace and a sense of wholeness to both their lives.

Jack spent many years in Clendenin, West Virginia, where he formed countless friendships. Among them, two stood the test of time - John Lucas and Bill Fleming - his brothers in every way but blood. Their friendship spanned over 70 years, and the bond they shared was deep, rare, and beautiful. Along with all the other friends he grew up with.

Jack Hatchett never needed recognition to feel fulfilled. He lived his values, spoke through his actions, and gave selflessly. He was the man people trusted, leaned on, laughed with, and looked up to.

His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped - in the children he raised, the friends he loved, and the example he set every day.

We were blessed to walk through this life with him, and we will carry his spirit with us always.

Thank you, Jack - for your service, your love, your strength, and your life.
