James Barry “Huck” Cowan- Gray, Tennessee
Once a Marine, Always a Marine
James Barry “Huck” Cowan, 78, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Huck was born on June 14, 1942, in Ashland, West Virginia, to the late Ralph and Edythe White Cowan.
Huck was a devoted Christian. He served his country proudly first in the United States Air Force, and later in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was also skilled in jack-hammering.
In addition to his parents, Huck was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Cowan and William Cowan, as well as several nephews.
Those left to cherish Huck’s memory include his wife, Brenda Greer Kitzmiller Cowan; daughters Heather Wang (Bruce) of Gary, West Virginia, and Angela Harris (Darrell) of Gray, Tennessee; sons James Cowan (Robyn) of Hernando, Mississippi, Steven Cowan (Vicky) of Princeton, West Virginia, Ryan Cowan, and Randy Kitzmiller (Kim) of Gray, Tennessee; brothers, Tommy Cowan (Jean) of Charles Town, West Virginia, and Dwight Cowan (Darnell) of Boonesmill, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Mical, Netty, Landen, Brandon (Jennifer), Keisha, and Donavan; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Matthew; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
