Joy "Cooper" Themer Obituary

Joy "Cooper" Themer, 95, passed away on August 20, 2024 at Brookdale Colonial Heights. Born on December 29, 1928, in Wichita, Kansas, she came into this world as the daughter of Edward A. Roddy and Ollie Bell Williams Roddy, both of whom predeceased her, as did her three sons, Jim, Edward, and Tom Cooper, and her three loving husbands, Lafe Cooper, Virgil Ziller, and Carl Themer.

Joy's story is one of resilience, grace, and an unwavering dedication to her family. She lovingly raised her surviving children, William "Bill" Cooper, Lafe Cooper (Diane), and Belinda Baffa (Steve Spain). Her legacy further blossoms through her lineage of 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished.

Graduating in the class of 1944 from Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, KS, Joy carried the spirit of her education throughout her life. She dedicated over three decades of service at the Post Office in Oakbrook, Illinois, where she left an indelible mark on her colleagues and community. Always active and engaging, she continued to make friends and share her joy for life when she relocated to the Tri-Cities a decade ago.

Joy's zest for life was matched by her musical talent; she enjoyed playing her organ and harmonica, instruments through which she expressed her considerable joy and echoed the tune of her name. She lived fully, laughed often, and loved much, leaving behind a symphony of memories that will forever resonate with those fortunate enough to have known her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Kingsport Adventist Church.

Joy will be laid to rest in Glenwood, WA, near her family.
