Kenneth E. Ray- Gate City
Kenneth E. Ray went Home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2016. He departed this life from Holston Manor in Kingsport, Tennessee. Kenneth was born January 11, 1933 in Ava, Illinois to the late John and Maude Ray.
Kenneth graduated high school, started college and went on to do carpentry work in California. He retired from the State of California Prison Systems where he taught classes in carpentry and worked with the fire department. Kenneth was of the Protestant Pentecostal faith. He was a member of the NRA and very involved in politics in Scott County. He loved living in Scott County and the people in the community. Kenneth found great joy in speaking to the elders about farming and gaining insight from their experiences. He loved to hunt and traveled the country hunting deer and elk. Kenneth had many talents but he excelled at remodeling things and loved to make things beautiful. He had a positive attitude and kept a smile on his face.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Jeanne Ray and several brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are: daughter, Deborah L. Ray; sons, Ken and Steven Ray; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 11:30 am. Aden Dancer will sing a song and the Chaplain of the Kingsport American Legion will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
