Marion Doktor Obituary

Marion Ruth Gilbert Doktor, 87, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on May 31, 2025, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born on December 3, 1937, in Nunda, NY, Marion's rich life began as the daughter of Wilson William and Sylvia Marie Turrell Gilbert, and she was also lovingly raised by her foster parents, Gus Carl and Mary L. Breitsman Lindke. Her journey through life was shared with her beloved husband, Norman Raymond Doktor, until his passing after 46 years of marriage.

A lifelong adherent of the Lutheran Faith, Marion was deeply involved in her community. She held the prestigious title of Senior Regent at the Kingsport Moose Lodge #972 and added her voice and efforts to the Eastern Star of Kingsport, demonstrating a commitment to service that touched many.

Marion grew up in New York and went on to spend the majority of her life in the local area since 1976. Her passion for learning and growing never waned, as she pursued a variety of interests that brought joy to her and those around her. As a fierce supporter of UT athletics and a dedicated fan of Tony Stewart, she found excitement and camaraderie in the sports she loved.

Not one to sit idle, Marion devoted her free time to the crafts of reading, crochet, and knitting. These hobbies were not only a testament to her dexterous skill, but they also provided countless cherished handcrafted gifts to her family and friends. Yet, it was perhaps her great-great-grandsons, Wesley and Wyatt, who became the subjects of her proudest moments and latest greatest joys in life.

Marion's legacy is carried on by her family, including her sister, Cathy Darlene Lindke Berquist, daughters Debra Ann Doktor Baker (Henry), and Vicki Jo Tester, her son Kirk Alan Doktor, and her grandchildren—Tina Marie Gill, James Michael Gill (Jenny), Rachel Lynn Moore, and Ashley Nicole Moore. She was also the proud great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren and adoring great-great-grandmother to two. Her memory will further live on through the lives of several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Marion's storied life will be celebrated by her family, friends, and all the lives she touched with her spirited enthusiasm, unwavering faith, and boundless love. Her memory will be cherished and honored as a beacon of strength, compassion, and joy.

A memorial service honoring Marion’s life will be held Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at Winged Deer Park. The time is to be announced later.
