Mary Ann Sturgill

Mary Ann Sturgill, 83, of Bristol, Tennessee, passed away quietly on April 9, 2026, at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a lengthy battle with heart disease.  She was affectionally known by her family as “Mur” and to her many beloved nieces and nephews as “Aunt Mur”.  Mary Ann was born in Bristol, Virginia, the last of her parents’ seven children to be born at home. 

Mary Ann graduated from John S. Battle High School before entering beauty school.  After completing her training in cosmetology, she moved to Northern Virginia, where she had a long career as a Hairdresser before retiring to live in Bristol.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, King and Agnes Sturgill, also of Bristol, and three brothers: Ray Sturgill, formerly of Shelby, N.C., Bobby Sturgill, formerly of Knoxville, TN, and Jerry Sturgill, formerly of Lebanon, TN.  Surviving Mary Ann are her remaining siblings, Judy Morris of Bristol, Gaye Phillippi of Knoxville, and Gary Sturgill of Lebanon. In addition, Mary Ann leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as grand-nieces/nephews, many of whom she had a profound impact on because of her deep love and devotion. 

Mary Ann is to be interred at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol following a private graveside service for the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter or the American Heart Association.
