Thelma Summers Obituary

Thelma June Summers, 85, passed away on May 12, 2025, at Abundant Christian Living in Johnson City, TN. Thelma was an inspiration, known for her radiant spirit and her unwavering faith. She was born on June 27, 1939, in Sapulpa, OK, the daughter of the late Christopher Pruitt and Beulah Cope Pruitt.

Thelma’s husband of 62 years, Rev. Howard Summers, preceded her in death. Together, they wove a family tapestry of love and service. Thelma's legacy lives on through her children: Rev. Mark Summers (Rhonda), Julie Stockstill (Rev. Steve), Gregory Summers, Trevor Summers (Jennifer), Amy Nix (Shannon), and Rev. Benjamin Summers (Tammy). Her memory will also be cherished by her brothers Earl, Bobby, and Johnny Pruitt, alongside her 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Thelma was predeceased by her siblings Sam, Jimmy, Jerry, Roy Wayne, Christine, Pauline, and Lorene, as well as her beloved grandson Josh Stockstill.

Thelma's life took her from her native Sapulpa, OK, to Blackwell, OK, and Southern Mississippi, settling in Johnson City, TN, for her final years. Her career path was as diverse as it was impactful; aside from working as a newspaper writer, Thelma was a cherished church secretary and dedicated pastor's wife at Crossroads Assembly of God. Her written works, including the heartfelt "Heartthoughts" devotional books, continue to touch lives and are still available from Amazon for those seeking comfort and inspiration.

Her passion for writing was only matched by her love for decorating and cooking, a testament to her expression of love for her family. To her, cooking was not just a hobby but her love language, through which she communicated her affection and care. Thelma was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of crossing her path, constantly exhibiting her wit and intelligence, love, and a faith-filled heart that knew no bounds.

Above all, Thelma loved the LORD fervently. She served faithfully by her husband's side throughout their marriage and continued her commitment to her faith after his passing. Her contributions to her community and church were immeasurable, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.

Thelma’s family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Monday, May 19, 2025, at Jonesborough Church of GOD. The funeral service will follow with family ministers officiating. The family will then proceed to the graveside service at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Stockstill, Zachariah Stockstill, Jesse Bales, Kevin Raines, Randy McKinney, Reid Nix, and Adam Summers. Honorary pallbearer is Isaac Summers.
