Thomas "Tommy" Darrell Knight, Jr.

Thomas "Tommy" Darrell Knight, Jr.,56, passed away on the 4th of July, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on September 6, 1968, in Metairie, LA, Tommy was a man of warmth and laughter, with a spirit that was both refined and grounded in his deep love for family and friends.

Tommy was the cherished son of the late Thomas D. Sr. and Carolyn A. Knight. His light will continue to shine through his beloved children, Amanda Cardin and her spouse Charles Hawkins, Elizabeth Cross and her spouse Andrew, and Thomas Darrell Knight, III and his spouse Nichole. Tommy's devotion to family was mirrored in his role as a loving brother to Kimberly Woodard and her spouse Robert, and as a doting grandfather to Kathryn Cardin, Joshua and Gracie Knight, and Lyndsey Cross. His love also touched his nephews, Jarin and Jared Gibson, and he held dear the special friendship he had with Emmett Smith and the lifelong friendship he had with Michael Price and Charles Leonard.

As a native of Louisiana and a resident of the Kingsport area for ten years, Tommy was known for his dedicated service as a former Sheriff's Deputy with Grant Parish. This dedication to public service was a testament to his character and his commitment to the safety and well-being of his community.

His kindness and compassion were evident to all who had the pleasure of encountering him. Known for his generosity and an open heart, Tommy built enduring friendships throughout his lifetime. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his grandchildren grow and flourish. He always said, “My grandchildren are my heart”.

Beyond his service and family, Tommy delighted in the simple pleasures life offered. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the serene environments provided by fishing and hunting. His joy was magnified by the company of his loyal dog, Rascal, who was by his side through thick and thin. To the end, he was an unwavering source of strength and joy for his family and friends.

Tommy’s family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church, located at 154 Anco Place, Kingsport, TN. The funeral service to honor Tommy’s memory will follow with Pastor Scott Young officiating.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens, located at 5913 Kingsport Hwy, Gray, TN.

Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Emmett Smith, Andrew Cross, Darrell Knight, Michael Price, Charles Hawkins, Tony Hood, Charles Leonard, Jarin Gibson, and Jared Gibson.
